Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is a mental health condition in which a person has persistent and disproportionate feelings of anxiety and worry, which can cause significant problems in everyday life.

Symptoms of GAR include:

Constant anxiety and worry that is felt most of the time. Unpleasant physical sensations such as severe muscle tension, shivering, tingling and cramping. Fatigue and irritability. Difficulty concentrating and focusing your attention. Restless thoughts and feelings of uncertainty.

Anxiety about various events or problems, including minor ones. The source of anxiety in GAR can be any situation or event, even if it does not pose a real threat. As a result, people with GAR may have difficulty at work, school, or in relationships with others.

Treatment for GAR may include psychotherapy and drug therapy. A combined approach that includes both psychotherapy and medication may be most effective in managing GAR.
